Signia provides a Legacy of Innovation in Hearing Aid Technology

Signia has established itself as a top hearing aid manufacturer for a variety of reasons, including its commitment to innovation, advanced technology, and a strong focus on enhancing the lives of individuals with hearing loss.  Let’s review the history of Siemens to Signia hearing aid technology and the brand they are today.

Siemens Hearing Aid Branch Transformation into Signia and WSA Audiology:

The transformation of the hearing aid branch of Siemens into Signia and subsequently into WSA Audiology represents a significant shift in the hearing aid industry and the evolution of these companies. Let’s delve into the details of this transformation:

Siemens Hearing Aid Division:

Siemens has a long history of involvement in the healthcare and medical technology sectors. The company’s hearing aid division was a prominent player in the global hearing aid market. Known for its innovative solutions in audiology and hearing healthcare. Siemens hearing aids were renowned for their quality and advanced technology.

I vividly recall my transition into the field of fitting hearing aids, which marked a significant departure from my doctoral program at the University of Minnesota. Although my academic focus had predominantly revolved around cochlear implants, aural rehabilitation, and research from 1995 to 2000, I made the pivotal decision to step away from the doctoral program and embark on a career as a clinical audiologist in the Twin Cities metro area.

It was during this juncture that I first encountered the Siemens brand. I had briefly explored Siemens in the past, recognizing it as a German company of note. After a few years in the field, I commenced the fitting of Siemens hearing aids. During that era, Resound and Phonak were undoubtedly at the forefront in terms of technological advancements. It’s essential to acknowledge that the trajectory of technology is anything but static. This transition is reminiscent of the once-prevalent popularity of the BlackBerry, which has since waned into obscurity.

The Birth of Signia:

In 2015, Siemens decided to rebrand its hearing aid division, renaming it Signia. The move aimed to emphasize their commitment to advancing hearing care solutions. Further, maintaining their established reputation for quality and innovation. Signia continued to build on Siemens’ legacy of cutting-edge technology and audiological expertise.

Focus on Innovation:

Under the Signia brand, the company continued to develop state-of-the-art hearing aid products. Siemens to Signia hearing aid technology focused on providing individuals with hearing impairments a more natural listening experience. Accomplished through advanced features such as speech enhancement, connectivity options, and improved noise reduction. The company aimed to create solutions that addressed the unique needs of its diverse customer base.

Transition to WSA Audiology:

In 2020, Signia underwent a further transformation when it merged with Widex, another leading hearing aid manufacturer. This merger resulted in the creation of a new entity known as WSA Audiology. The name “WSA” is derived from the initials of the two merging companies, Widex and Signia. This consolidation aimed to combine the strengths and resources of both companies. Allowing them to pool their knowledge, expertise, and innovation to deliver even more advanced hearing solutions.

WSA Audiology’s Commitment to Hearing Health:

WSA Audiology continued the tradition of developing cutting-edge hearing aid technology while expanding its commitment to hearing health. The company focused on creating personalized solutions that catered to individual hearing needs. They also embraced the potential of artificial intelligence and digital connectivity to improve the quality of life for people with hearing loss.

Global Reach and Impact:

The transformation of Siemens to Signia Hearing Aid Technology and eventually into WSA Audiology reflected the evolving landscape of the hearing aid industry. These companies aimed to make a global impact. Done so by providing innovative, high-quality hearing solutions and services to a broad and diverse customer base.

Overall, this transformation from Siemens to Signia and then WSA Audiology represents a commitment to advancing the field of audiology, with a focus on innovation, technological advancements, and improving the quality of life for those with hearing loss. These companies continue to play a significant role in the hearing aid industry. Offering a range of products and services designed to address the unique needs of individuals with hearing impairments.

Here are some key factors that contribute to Siemens to Signia hearing aid technology as a leading hearing aid manufacturer:

Innovative Technology:

Signia is known for its pioneering approach to hearing aid technology. They consistently introduce cutting-edge features that significantly improve the auditory experience for users. Whether it’s Own Voice Processing (OVP), Augmented Xperience (AX), Integrated Experience (the newest of the hearing aids), or advanced noise reduction algorithms, Signia hearing aids are at the forefront of technological advancements in audiology.

Customer-Centric Solutions:

Signia places a strong emphasis on tailoring their products to meet the unique needs of each user. Their hearing aids adapt to various listening environments, ensuring that wearers can hear clearly in diverse situations. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) allows for continuous optimization of sound settings based on individual preferences and environments in the Signia Assist.

Discreet Design:

Signia hearing aids are designed to be discreet and aesthetically pleasing. Their sleek and compact designs make the hearing aids virtually invisible when worn, catering to those who desire a more subtle appearance.  The key to their inconspicuous appearance lies in the placement of the receiver, which is positioned inside the ear canal. This placement ensures that the main body of the hearing aid, which houses the processing components, is situated behind the ear, out of sight. Signia’s hearing aids sit right at the top of the ear.

Their newly designed Styletto hearing aid is an example of a stylish yet discreet design.  This design not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the hearing aid but also allows for a more comfortable and natural fit for wearers, as well as reducing wind noise and improving overall sound quality. It’s a popular choice for those who value both functionality and an unobtrusive yet stylish appearance in their hearing aids.

Connectivity and Convenience:

Signia offers a range of hearing aids with Bluetooth connectivity. This allows wearers to stream audio from their smartphones, TVs, and other devices directly into their hearing aids. Mobile apps provide users with the ability to fine-tune settings, control their hearing aids, and monitor their hearing health.  Current Signia hearing aids can be hands-free with the iPhone.  Signia hearing aids also have convenient accessories to provide even better hearing in hard-to-hear situations.   The TV Streamer makes for direct TV streaming and can be adjusted in the app.  Signia has a remote microphone for listening in noise.  Best of all, it will be easy to work with Signia from remote settings. Please refer to our Signia remote blog.

Tinnitus Management:

Many Signia hearing aids come with tinnitus management features. This is particularly beneficial for those who experience tinnitus alongside hearing loss, as it can provide relief and improve overall hearing comfort.  Signia’s Notch Therapy, for instance, is an innovative feature incorporated into their hearing aids to address the challenges posed by tinnitus, which often accompanies hearing loss. Notch Therapy is designed to provide relief to individuals experiencing tinnitus by precisely targeting and masking the specific frequencies where the tinnitus sounds are most prominent. By creating a more comfortable and soothing soundscape, Signia’s Notch Therapy can help those with tinnitus to better manage and alleviate the perception of these bothersome noises, improving overall hearing comfort and quality of life for hearing aid wearers.

Rechargeable Options:

Signia provides rechargeable hearing aids, reducing the environmental impact of disposable batteries and offering wearers the convenience of all-day use without battery changes.  Signia most definitely has the most diverse chargers on the market.  From a portable charger to dry and clean charger, they got it down and impressively so.  Signia charger options are solid and we don’t see many come back for repair.

Key features of the AX platform and its dual processing capabilities include:

Signia’s Augmented Xperience (AX) platform is a cutting-edge technology that represents a significant advancement in the world of hearing aids. AX is designed to provide wearers with a more immersive and natural hearing experience, addressing a range of challenges commonly faced by individuals with hearing loss.

Augmented Focus:

The AX platform places a strong emphasis on “augmented focus.” This means that the hearing aids adapt in real-time to the wearer’s environment, prioritizing speech and essential sounds while reducing noise and distractions.

Integrated Focus:

Thanks to Real-Time Conversation Enhancement, your hearing aids are now equipped to improve and follow multiple conversations at the same time, even if people are on the move or you shift your focus. They continuously analyze a vast amount of information, approximately 192,000 data points every second, to get a complete picture of your listening environment and understand the conversations happening around you. This clever technology amplifies the voices of the people you’re speaking with, making sure you can hear them clearly while staying connected to your surroundings. Plus, it adapts to changes in your conversation environment incredibly fast, about 1,000 times per second, so you can effortlessly stay engaged as conversations evolve and shift.

AI Adaptation:

Signia’s AX platform incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) to continuously adapt to the wearer’s preferences and the unique acoustic environment. The AI feature fine-tunes sound settings, making it easier for wearers to switch between different listening scenarios with optimal sound quality.

Connectivity:

The AX platform provides seamless connectivity options, allowing wearers to wirelessly connect their hearing aids to smartphones and other devices. This connectivity feature opens up possibilities for streaming audio, making phone calls, and controlling hearing aid settings through a mobile app.

Own Voice Processing (OVP):

OVP technology, which addresses the perception of one’s own voice, is integrated into the AX platform to create a more natural and comfortable listening experience.

Remote Support:

Signia’s AX platform is equipped with remote support features, enabling wearers to receive assistance and fine-tuning from their hearing care professional even without an in-person visit.
