Hear More with Widex: How PureSound™Technology Amplifies Even the Quietest Sounds

Zero Delay Widex Technology

Why Widex Hearing Aids Help You Hear the Softest Sounds Naturally

Widex’s ZeroDelay™ technology represents a significant advancement in hearing aid design, addressing the common issue of artificial sound quality experienced by users. Traditional hearing aids often introduce a processing delay between the microphone’s input and the receiver’s output, typically ranging from 4 to 8 milliseconds.

ZeroDelay™ technology was developed by Widex’s own team of engineers as a response to a long-standing issue in hearing aid design: the artificial sound quality caused by signal processing delays. Traditional hearing aids introduced a noticeable lag, typically between 4 to 8 milliseconds, between the time sound was picked up and the time it was delivered to the ear.

This delay often created an unnatural, tinny sound due to the comb filter effect, especially when the amplified sound combined with natural sound in open fittings. Widex engineers sought to overcome this by designing a new, ultra-fast signal processing pathway.  This new signal processing is one that could compress all necessary amplification and sound shaping into less than 0.5 milliseconds.

Drawing on advanced digital signal processing principles, but engineered entirely within the context of hearing aid performance, this breakthrough was not borrowed from other industries, but rather custom-developed by Widex specifically to improve natural sound quality in hearing aids. This innovation led to the introduction of PureSound™ and marked a significant leap forward in user experience and sound fidelity.

Widex developed the ZeroDelay™ Accelerator, an ultra-fast signal pathway that reduces the processing delay to below 0.5 milliseconds. This near-instantaneous processing ensures that the amplified sound aligns almost perfectly with the natural sound, effectively eliminating delay-based distortions. The outcome is a more natural and clear auditory experience, which Widex has termed “PureSound™”.

Users have reported significant improvements with PureSound™, noting enhanced spatial perception and clarity. In a survey conducted by Widex, 95% of participants indicated that sounds appeared exactly where they would expect them to be, reflecting the technology’s ability to preserve the natural characteristics of the listening environment.

ZeroDelay™ technology is incorporated into various models within the Widex Moment™ and now Allure hearing aid series, including:

  • Widex Moment Sheer sRIC R D: Suitable for individuals with minimal to profound hearing loss, offering direct streaming capabilities and compatibility with both iOS and Android devices.
  • Widex Moment Custom:  A custom model for in the ear hearing aids made just for you.
  • Widex Moment BTE R or 13:  A standard behind the ear model for those that want a little less maintenance or have a more significant hearing loss.
  • Widex Moment RIC 312D: A discreet receiver-in-canal device that supports direct streaming and features artificial intelligence through the Widex Moment app.
  • Widex Moment RIC 10: The smallest and most discreet RIC model, designed for style-conscious users, offering full control via smartphone apps or DEX devices.
  • Widex Allure Ric D:  The latest in Widex Technology Hearing aids, offering more PureSound in all the programs.
  • Widex SmartRic R: A slim model heairng aid with microphones posted on a new horizontal plain reporting to offer better hearing in noise.

By integrating ZeroDelay™ technology into these models, Widex has set a new standard in hearing aid performance, delivering sound that closely mirrors natural hearing and enhancing user satisfaction.

Even Before the introduction of ZeroDelay™ technology, Widex Sound Stood Out Differently From Competitors:

Prior to the introduction of ZeroDelay™ Widex employed several advanced engineering strategies to ensure natural and high-fidelity sound reproduction in their hearing aids. Central to this approach was the TruSound Compression System, designed to handle a wide range of input sounds—from the faintest whispers to robust sounds up to 113 dB SPL—without resorting to peak clipping, which can distort sound quality.

TruSound Compression System:
  • Soft Sounds: Widex aimed to keep soft sounds audible by employing a very low compression threshold through Enhanced Dynamic Range Compression (EDRC). This approach sought to match the loudness perception of a normal-hearing individual, ensuring that users could hear subtle environmental cues.
  • Normal Speech Levels: The system provided optimal speech intelligibility by amplifying each frequency region appropriately, making speech cues clear and understandable.

      ·       Loud Sounds: For louder inputs, the strategy ensured that these sounds were perceived as loud but not uncomfortably so, preserving the natural dynamic range without introducing distortion. To further enhance sound quality, Widex incorporated the True Input Technology, which increased the input range of their hearing aids. This technology allowed the devices to handle higher volume levels without distortion, ensuring that even loud sounds were processed cleanly and naturally.

In contrast to some competitors who might employ more aggressive compression or peak clipping strategies—potentially leading to a loss of sound fidelity—Widex’s approach emphasized minimal manipulation of the sound signal. This philosophy of “manipulating less” was rooted in the belief that preserving the authentic characteristics of sound enhances speech clarity and overall listening experiences.

By focusing on these engineering principles, Widex differentiated itself in the market by delivering hearing aids that provided a more natural and comfortable listening experience, effectively amplifying soft sounds without compromising the integrity of louder inputs.

Widex Hearing Aids have always been a favorite for Musicians:

Widex hearing aids are known for their unique ability to let users hear very soft sounds, like leaves rustling or a distant whisper, more clearly than many other hearing aid brands. This advantage comes from a combination of exclusive Widex technologies designed to preserve the natural range and detail of sound.

One key reason is Widex’s True Input Technology, which gives the hearing aids an extremely wide input dynamic range. That means they can accurately capture everything from the softest sounds (5dB SPL) up to very loud ones (over 113 dB SPL) without distorting or cutting off parts of the sound signal. Many competitors use compression or peak clipping on louder sounds, which can flatten the richness of the audio and make softer sounds harder to detect, especially in more complex environments.

Another important feature is Widex’s very low compression kneepoints, part of its TruSound Compression System. This system starts amplifying sound at much softer levels than many other hearing aids. So, when a faint sound occurs, Widex devices don’t wait for it to get louder before they react.  Widex technology enhances the soft sound right away, without making louder sounds too overwhelming. The result is a more natural, full soundscape.

Widex also emphasizes low distortion and high-resolution sound quality across all frequency bands. This means that even subtle speech cues or soft environmental noises are preserved and delivered clearly.

Now, combined with ZeroDelay™ technology in the Widex Moment line (which removes artificial processing delays), users not only hear soft sounds, they hear them as they naturally occur, without any metallic or tinny quality.

In short, Widex makes it easier to hear the quiet world again!  thanks to precision engineering that doesn’t sacrifice detail, even at the lowest volume levels.  This is a clinic favorite today and yesterday (2012–2025).

We highly recommend a listen to Widex before you purchase your next Hearing aid.
