“No, it didn’t snow last night.”
“What’s that you said?”
“Our cat is dead?”
“What?”
“John, Scat can’t be dead. Look?” Mary pointed to the cat, lounging next to her.
“You can’t hear me, can you, Mary?”
“What?”
Don grunted. “Why don’t you listen when I’m talking to you?”
Mary sighed, “Speak up. You’re mumbling again.”
“I said, you didn’t answer my question.”
“What question?”
“Oh, for crying out loud. You didn’t really think the cat is dead, did you?”
Mary laughed. “How silly of you, John. Of course, I love you.”
Don reached across the sofa and placed his hand on Mary’s thigh. “Mary?”
“Yes dear?”
“Who is John?”
